Nordmann Kompakt : Certified natural ingredients
In this issue of Nordmann Kompakt, we present raw materials that have been COSMOS- and NATRUE-approved for use in natural cosmetics.
What different certification options are there?
In 2002, ECOCERT became the first to introduce a standard for natural and organic cosmetics that is now recognized in over 80 countries. Then in 2007, European manufacturers of natural and organic cosmetics established NATRUE. COSMOS came later as a step towards a single European standard, initiated by the five main European organizations (including ECOCERT and BDHI). The standard was approved in 2010.
In 2017, ISO 16128 became an international standard, setting out approaches for calculating various indices.
Both COSMOS and NATRUE distinguish between “approved” and “certified” in their certifications for raw materials. Raw materials can only be certified if, among other things, they contain a certain amount of organic content.
